Well, I wasn't going to tell many people this, but since I see so many posts
asking for help with an Xconfig...File it under "Yes, the wrong Xconfig CAN
most _definately_ cause your monitor to have a coronary!!"
Having just got X386mono working, I was probably not paying close enough
attention to what I was doing when I decided to edit my Xconfig file. I was
only "in there" changing the mouse device, when I accidentally (really)
uncommented out a line with a too-high set of video clocks. And sure
enough, when I fired up the server the next time...I fired up my monitor
as well. Literally. Well, no actual flames, but a really disheartening
bunch of pops etc. that were the unmistakable sound of some crucial parts
going to their just rewards. Yes, I read all those "BE CAREFUL OF YOUR
TIMINGS!" warnings. Yes, it _was_ working because I followed them right
up until the "event". I'm posting this in the hope that it might save
somebody some grief.
The upshot: YES! IT CAN HAPPEN! PLEASE BE CAREFUL! THANKS!
good luck all,
pat
