Subject: HELP! Severe Harddisk problems!

Hello people,

well,,,this is not a Linux special problem. Why then in c.o.l? You are rite,
but I don't know other newsgroups, where I can find that many skillfull PC-
Users as in here (and btw : I use SLS 1.01 :-)) So, my problem is my new
harddisk:

- It is a SCSI drive from IBM. 0366 E12 or similar :))

I use the new adaptec 1542C. When I boot, the harddrive starts (sirrr....) and
then suddenly starts to make strange noises like 'clocc'. This repeats every
second or two. Even if there is no controller at it...only power. That sounds
like a really damaged harddisk, hm?

And, the adaptec has firmware 1.0...rather low number :) any bad experience
with that?

BTW: Is it normal that i could cook on my harddisk after 5 minutes of usage?
     (it gets really hot...)

cu

Philippe
