From: jeremy@wildcat.npa.uiuc.edu (Jeremy Payne) Subject: X changes betw. p6 & p8 ? -- *please* help w. Xconfig for speedstar+ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1993 22:03:53 GMT
I'm going nuts trying to get my diamond speedstar+/crystal scan 1024 NI
gateway machine to run X. The best I can get is 800x600, and even
then when shutting down the server or switching to a text console the
timings get really whacked and I have to power down. Lots of people
sent me Xconfigs from identical harware setups, but none work for me,
and I'm sure about the hardware I have. The only real difference I
can see is that nobody who sent me stuff seems to be running 0.99p8,
could that have anything to do w. anything? The timings aren't just
a little off BTW, they're quite screwed up. I'm wondering whether
having a diamond card and hearing that the more recent Xservers figure
out the dotclocks by themselves may be conspiring to drive me out of my
mind. *Any* help would be greatly appreciated -- I'm at my wits end
after doing those timing calcs all weekend, and I *refuse* to go back
to dos :-)
I found that I had to use the ClockProg switch BTW with the diamond-freq
code to get anything at all to work, which also seems strange since as
several people pointed out it should only be the newer diamond cards
that have that proprietary PLL pbm.
Thanks...
