I suppose we might be talking about different versions. The one on
nic.funet.fi is SOSS v3.1. It is distributed under GPL and as such is
free, albeit copyrighted software. It turns out I was wrong about SOSS
including a client, though. It is indeed only a server, nor did I find
any other free NFS clients. Sorry about the misinformation.
