What exactly does ka9q require on the other end? Does SLIP need to
br running on the other end for ka9q to operate correctly?

The reason I ask is that our campus has no UUCP/SLIP support at all.
Dialins are achieved by calling a number that connects me to the campus
dataswitch, and from there I decide where to connect to. All in all, I've
been told that writing a script to handle this type of thing would be tricky
and not real reliable. I believe them.. writing autologin scripts for a
term program didn't work real well when I tried that.

I'd love to get local mail & news on my Linux box. 9600bps wouldn't
be too bad for a connection, either. Anyone have any ideas?

BTW, our campus is screwed up enough that any file transfer
protocols only work from our VAX, running VMS. It's the only machine
connected through serial lines. Everything else bombs when I try to run
sz/sb, so that severely limits how I can connect.
