It *may* be possible using timer interrupts, but I still doubt it.
It takes a *lot* of processor power the way it's done now (using timing
loops), and sharing the CPU with other operations (like its own disk-read)
tends to mess it up.

...and what are you talking about, "8/16 bit modes"?!? The PC's internal
speaker has only *ONE-BIT* mode... on and off.

I've never seen a PC come with a volume control for its internal speaker,
so maybe you have some sort of sound card?
