If I were you, I'd be careful just how much I bet :-)
DEC have already chopped 40% off the price of an Alpha, to bring it close to
the price of the Pentium. DEC appears to be planning to match or better
the Pentium for `bang per buck'. They are also trying to get an Alpha based
PC ready to ship same time as the Pentium boxes. Running NT and with a x86
emulator which is supposed to match a 486, yikes !!

We are probably at the beginning of a major change in desktop computing.
The increasing popularity of Unix and Windows (NT) and the portability they
introduce may just break Intels stranglehold. (Please note that although I'm
pretty much anti-intel, it is not going to stop me going out and buying a
PC in a couple of weeks time. Although the reason I'm going to buy
is Linux :-)
