In fact, since i do X10 control of various things around the house from my
system, i plugged my monitor into an X10 appliance module, and wrote a
cron job which uses the output of 'w' to power down the monitor if no one's
logged in on the console, or if they've been idle for an hour.

(Do I have the only lawn sprinklers in the world controlled by
a linux system? i'll bet i do... :-)
