There are two useful programs, xli and xv. xv does tons of nifty stuff
with playing with the image, but converts it internally to 8 bit. xli
just displays, but is faster, will pan inside an images larger than the
screen, and will handle up to 24 bits if someone ever does a better X
server for Linux.

| - Graphics converter: JPEG <-> EPS, etc. especially with scale, crop,

PBM has been ported, I believe (there's a file for it). And the free
JPEG stuff ports, although I never bothered to upload it since it's not
Linux speciffic, just compile.

| - Paint program: or at least some method of bitmap editing.
| - FAX send//receive
| - CAD

A lot less diversity here.
|
| Hardware/software combos:
| - Video capture: grey-scale is fine.
| - EPROM programmer: (OK, I'm dreaming!)

Actually the programmer should be a really easy device driver to
write, having written program interfaces to them in ISIS, CP/M and DOS.
Depending on the actual unit you use, it should be about an evening's
work to do the driver, although the actual program to accept binary
and/or hex format will take longer unless you have one to cobble.

Unfortunately the only one I have of my own is based on S-100 bus, not
likely for Linux.

Last year I worried that Bush would die and let Quayle take over.
This year I worry that Hillary will die and let Bill take over.
