I would agree. I would also point out that DPMI/VCPI simply are
hacks themselves in the DOS environment to try and overcome
limitations that DOS has (particularly the real-mode / 640K limit).
Since Linux doesn't have these limitations, I see no reason
to put that functionality in the kernel, even if dosemu might benefit
from it.

There probably are several free CAD type packages that would run
under Linux + X. They may work well as an effective substitute
for Autocad under Linux. Autocad (and many newer DOS programs)
tend to try to push DOS past its limitations, and create a slew
of problems, even in real DOS with stuff like QEMM/EMM386 and
TSRs etc., that is enough of a painful headache, and it would
be foolish IMHO to make that worse.
