  Hmmm, I doubt it, but I'm not an X guru so I could be wrong. You
would probably get a better response asking in comp.windows.x.i386unix
(I have crossposted for you).

  Alternatively, you could get a monitor which remembers the settings
for the various modes, though this might not be a viable option of course.
