| I have a ADAPTEC 1542c scsi adapter, and i tried to install the
| CDROM beta test linux version 0.99 patch level 5 on a SEAGATE 1Gb disk.
| When i boot from the diskette, it doesn't recognize any device on the
| scsi bus.
You have to use a 0.99 patch level 8 kernel!!
| The adapter configuration is the one by default, except the bus
| termination,
| which is disabled, because i have one internal disk (with terminators) and a
| external CDROM device (also with terminator).
I have problems with a non-default setting, too.
I had to tell my ADAPTEC 1542C to send the scsi-hd a Start Unit Command at
boot time. In this case I get the following messages:
aha1542_out failed (1): Configuring Adaptec at IO:330 IRQ 11 DMA Prio 5
aha1542_out failed (1): aha1542.c: Interupt received but no mail
aha1542.c: Interupt received but no mail
scsi0: Adaptec1542
Adaptec 1542scsi: 1 hosts
aha1542.c: Interupt received but no mail
So I have to boot twice: First to turn on the hd (Linux doesn't start), then
disable the Start Unit Command sending and boot the second time.
Now Linux starts w/o any problems concerning the aha1542c !
Ciao
