I managed to correct th problem previously posted regarding init: exec error.
The problems were due to insufficient rights in init - no more, no less.

Thanks to Olaf Titz (s_titz@ira.uka.de) for the assistance.

I now know some things NOT to do on a unix system (although it seemed so
innocent......)
