Subject: Can't rdev be distributed compiled?; location at sunsite
Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1993 14:39:13 GMT

I know this is probably a dumb question, just send me gentle
email telling me why it's a dumb question, please. Maybe I'm
just confused about what constitutes "booting".

Looking through the INDEX.whole file from sunsite, I see the
chboot is in system/Linux-boot, but, as I read it, a compiiled
rdev isn't available at all, and rdev.c is under systems/Misc.

I would think there should be a link in Linux-boot to rdev,
at least, and that rdev should be supplied compiled. I know
that rdev also slices bread and all, but the way it can change
the image on the boot diskette to point to a new root is
a prominent feature.

Is it impossible to provide a compiled rdev that would work
for everyone? The program recently saved me perhaps 9 hours
of grief when I had to make my linux hard disk be disk b;
thanks Werner.
