From: slvch@cc.usu.edu Subject: How to open a SERIAL PORT for TERMINAL Date: 19 Apr 1993 03:30:20 MDT
Hi, there,
I got a question when I set up my friend's Linux. If I want to enable a serial
port for a terminal or dial in device, how should I do. I check the FAQ in the
Linux, but I cannot figure out. My step as follows:
1). Modify the inittab in /etc
2). Setup a null modem cable from Linux to my 286 PC
Then I start both machine, but there is the message shown on Linux machine
continuously
Apr xx tt:tt:tt init[1]: line 39 of /etc/inittab is incorrect
Thus I must put in my a1 and a2 and mount the Linux to /mnt, and modify the
inittab to previous manner.
Is there anyone ever successfully enable the port for the serial line. Any
suggesstion is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
