Which version did you download ? recently there is a new one posted to

We also have a telebit here locked on 38400 and every thing works just fine.

This feature aslo works fine over here, look for the new version.
I think you have an old version of the source. last version now is 1.4b
which is still a beta version but it looks like it is very stable.
