I recently download the newest version of SLS from Sunsite. I did it by
tarring each directory (get x3.tar). I then downloaded each tar'd directory
to my pc, which is dblstacked with dos 6. I then ran tarread to extract the
files on to floppy disk for the install. When I ran the install the disk a1
and a2 worked fine, a3 on errored out. For example, vgalib on a3 gave the
following:
installing vgalib...Tar: Skipping to next file header
Stdin: invalid compressed data - CRC error
done
and went on to the next file which did the same, and so on. I then went
back to ftp, grap dir a3 without tarring it, and downloaded it directly to
floppy, and it worked fine. Is it the initial tarring that caused the
problem? Or can I tar it, untar it on my UNIX account, and then transfer
the files to floppy, skipping the stacked drive? If it is DOS 6 dblspace
that causes the problem, maybe this should be added to the FAQ.
