Subject: Linux wont boot :-(
Date: Fri, 09 Apr 1993 03:16:00 -0800

Well, after a couple weeks of playing I finally got everything
working ok, EXCEPT X. It locked my machine and I had to do a cold
boot to get it back.(could'nt SYNC) I can boot to the istallation
disks and mount hdb1 but the boot disk created at installation(have
8, reinstalled many time and made a new disk each time) stops after
the Linux VER .99 stuff. I don't get any login prompts or VT's. If i
pretend i have a login and type root, I hear the HD access but no
video to indicate progress. I tried the fseck and got bad magic
block or somthing to that effect. Now for the four questions:Can i
salvage the system without reinstalling? Is there a doc of tech
related Q&A (other than the FAQ) for recovery procedures for
different situations? Is this common? I've just started "Playing"
with linux (Knowledge is power) and I've blown 50 - 60 bucks on
various books and mags but all the info there is theory not
practical info. What are the sources that some of you guru's started
with?
All responces via E-mail are appreciated
