From: jsaker@cwis.unomaha.edu (James R. Saker Jr.) Subject: extfs standalone mount problem Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1993 02:41:48 GMT
I've run into a roadblock when booting off of standalone to repair
my Linux system (changes made in /lib). When I boot the .98 root system,
(using the .99 kernal pulled off of tsx-11 since the .98 kernal won't
boot w/out trashing my screen), I boot successfully and try to mount
/dev/hda1 (an extfs id=83 filesystem). However...
"mount /dev/hda1 /mnt" gives me an error "MINIX-fs magic match failed,
mount: /dev/hda1 already mounted or /mnt busy". /dev/hda1 is not in
use (df verifies this), and /mnt is not in use (error is reproduced
when mounting to any empty directory).
My config is as follows:
/dev/hda1 = Linux / extfs (id=83) filesystem
/dev/hda2 = Linux /user extfs (id=83) filesystem
/dev/hda3 = Linux swap
/dev/hda4 = DOS 5.0 partition
Linux flavor = SLS .99p6
Hardware = Intel 486/33, IDE 210MByte HD, 8 MBytes RAM, VGA
I initially attributed this problem to mount having problems w/ the
extfs, but was further confused when I was able to successfully
mount /dev/hda2 to /mnt -- which is of the same extfs type.
I need to be able to mount hda1 to relink on of the /lib files whose
link was inadvertantely nuked (libc) and prevents the system from
even booting up the /dev/hda1 filesystem.
Suggestions? Ideas would be *greatly* appreciated...
