Subject: [Q] More questions reqarding reading of SLS install disk
Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1993 22:20:40 GMT

I still can't get the SLS install to read my disk. Here is the info
suggested to me, and what I did. I'm using SLS .99pl2-55 (according to the
boot disk). Any help would be appreciated.

===============================
Get Gzip.taz from whereever i.e. your ftp server.

I got this from tsx-11.mit.edu on 4.8.93

use rawrite to rawrite this to a floppy.

did this .....

        boot, then type:

        mount /dev/hda2 /root

I did this to hda2 (put have 2 parts: hda2, hda3)

        cp /dev/fd0H1440 /root/gzip.tar.Z

I did this, but it comes from my a2 disk, not the floppy I put it on

        uncompress /root/gzip.tar.Z

Begining to troubles: When I uncompress it I get a message stating it's not
in a compressed format. So then I tryed to untar it, and got amessage
saying it's not a tar archive (can post exact wording if needed). At this
point I'm stuck. I have no gunzip to continue with.......

        cd /root
        tar xvf gzip.tar

OK, got that? Now use rawrite to rawrite the package that contains
sysinstall onto your hard drive, in my case : menus.tpz

do I need to specify anything more then d: (my hda2)???

then again do the above, starting from cp /dev/fd0 substituting
menus.tpz for gzip.taz and gunzip for uncompress

        Remove the sysinstall from /bin
copy the new sysinstall to /bin then run doinstall again, it should
        work OK

Thanks!
