Hello,
After getting some very useful Xconfig help from the net, I've managed to
get a good picture on my X server under Linux. However, when redirecting
stderr, I noticed a preliminary error message:

Setting TCP SO_LINGER: Protocol not available

No SIOCGIFCONF

What do these mean? They look to me like a complaint one would expect if a
service was missing from the kernel. I searched the source for the strings
SO_LINGER and SIOCGIFCONF. I found the former in signal.h, but I didn't find
it *used* anywhere in the kernel source. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is
this an inetd problem? Do I really need inetd in a system without ethernet
(I eventually will have SLIP, but not yet)?

Also, the mouse is not responding. I have a Microsoft compatible bus mouse,
and Xconfig points directly to /dev/ttyS2. Pointing it to /dev/bmousems
results in a "cannot open mouse" error.

It would be wonderful to get this X server working (finally), now that I've had
a glimpse of what the screen looks like. Even on this cheap 1024x768 interlaced
monitor, the picture quality is comparable to the Tektronix 14" Color (fire
sale) X-terminal I've been playing with at work. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
