The Gateway machine I am considering comes with
a Sony CDU-31a CDROM drive. This is listed
on the Linux compatible hardware list, but
note is made of a proprietary interface card.
What is this card? Does it normally come
with the CDROM, or is it an extra thing?
Generally, how worthwhile are these CDROMs?
I plan to run a Windows partition in addition
to a Linux partition. Does any software for
Linuz come on CDs?
Also, just how bad is 8Meg RAM for running X11?
Would I notice? This system will be standalone,
one person at a time usage, and will be used
mostly for LaTeX annd some C++ and X programming.
