Xfree1.2 supports Type1 fonts. Type1 fonts which are used by dos-
computers under windows for AdobeTypeManager (*.pfb, binary) can be
used directly for X11. You have to use only PublicDomain Type1 fonts,
because of the Copyright of the commercial ones. Please read
carefully the license that accompanies those fonts.
You have to edit the file fonts.scale in
/usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 to add the new fonts. You don't need
to convert them to *.pfa (ascii). After that you have to run
mkfontdir on that directory. Use 'xset fp rehash' or restart the
X-server. The new fonts are available now for example in xfontsel,
xfig etc.

MY PROBLEM: For some fonts the italic Version is displayed in the
(non italic) standard format. Does anybody has a solution
            for that?

|Version 1.0 is the Holy Grail of kernel development right now. It's still
|somewhere just over the horizon - should be out any day now :-). You
|may have been hearing about SLS 1.0, which has been released. It uses 0.99
|something-or-other of the kernel.

|Erik

I think that SLS 1.0 is based on Linux kernel 99.4.
I don't think they will make another SLS until Linux 1.0 is out.
