From: k083240@hobbes.kzoo.edu (Stephen P. Gilmer) Subject: [Q] regarding SLS install disk b3+ Date: 8 Apr 1993 02:19:19 GMT
Well I solved my first problem. Linux didn't like my partion size (111210),
so I split it in half (58410, 52800) and rand mkfs instead of mke2fs and
things worked, well almost. I get the prompts for the installation disk
(although it skips disk D1-2, S1, T1). When I enter a disk, I get the
following (same for each disk):
[MS-DOS FS Rel. alpha.8, Fat 12, check=n, conv=b, uid=0, gid=0 umask=000]
[me-0xf0, cs=1, #f=2, fs=1, f1=9, ds=19, de=224, data=33, se 2880,ts=0]
after I insert disk B7 I get:
Install /user/nn6418m.tar (y/n/q)? y <-- my reply
Installing nn6418m...tar: skipping to next file header....
done
Insert disc c1 ........
that is the only thing that installs. I continue through the rest of the
disk (x1 - 10), when I get the following:
mv: command not found
/root/bin/rm: no such file or dir
/root/lib: no such......
/root/urs/bin/ln: no such ......
then it prompts for a disk to make the boot, more errors of missing files,
and so on. I think you get the picture. My question is this, did I do
something wrong when I made the disk. I tarred the directorys from
wuarchives, downloaded them to my pc, untarred them using tarread.exe, and put
them on ms-dos formatted floppies. When I insert a diask after being
prompted by the install script, it replies with enter next disk as soon as I
hit enter. The HD runs for a brief sec, and the same for the floppy.
Neither run long enough for any files to be copied.
My pc is a Gateway 2000 DX2 66V with 8mgs of ram, and 340mg HD (approx 110
for Linux) and a 14400 (gateway telefax) modem.
On a side note, I'm going to upgrade to DOS 6, any suggestions to install
linux first or upgrade?
Thanks!
