Subject: How do I get xdtm to work?
Date: Wed, 7 Apr 1993 00:34:15 GMT

I installed xdtm today on my system and tried it out. It didn't
work because it needed a different version of the math library.
Here is the error message that it displayed:
    xdtm: can't load library '/lib/libm.so.4'
    Incompatible version.

I tried to find an earlier or later version of this library
but all I found was the same version I have now. What should I
do? Get another version of the library (that is if someone can tell
me where it's at) or just grab the source and compile it myself?
BTW, I looked around for the source...I couldn't find that either.

Incidentally, wasn't that jump table stuff---forgive me if I'm
saying some stupid---supposed to correct the problem with binaries
that needed an older version of a particular library? If not, then
something needs to be done about this problem in general. I get
tired of wasting a lot of time downloading a binary that can't
work on my system. I believe that this isn't as big a problem as
it used to be but nevertheless it is rather annoying. Please don't
misunderstand me---I'm not complaining---Linux is a great operating
system but an operating system is only as good as the applications
that are available for it. Fortunately, Linux has a good selection.
