Hello, netters!
I've recently installed SLS (Linux), and I've gotten stuck setting up my
Xconfig file. I found a sample database in /usr/X386/lib/X11/etc, which had
several Diamond cards in it, but none quite as old as mine. I tried the numbers
for the Diamond Speedstar VGA+, which is one generation later than mine (and
also the earliest model in the database), since the dot clock frequencies
looked right.
It didn't work. I got a screen with four translated images (I think), which
degenerated into unrecognizable garbage when I hit CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to kill
the server. So, I tried running at 640x480 using the standard VESA numbers.
The image was *identical*, which I didn't expect.
To make a long story short, I tried just about everything I could think of,
including getting kermitting vgaset over. Nothing worked. Does anyone have
an Xconfig fragment for this card? The main problem I have is that the VGA and
monitor manuals only list horizontal and vertical retrace frequencies. From
this, of course, I can calculate the dot clock frequency, and the apparent
screen size is easy (640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768). The other six numbers are
a mystery to me, though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
