I'm having difficulty using the communication packages supplied
with Linux (eg. minicom, ckermit). With all the parameters
set identically to those for any dos comm program (eg. TELIX),
ckermit fails to address the modem, no dialtone, no dialing.
Duringn the SLS installation, I was asked for the com port used (com2)
and /dev/modem correctly points to /dev/ttyS1.
What am I doing wrong? Is there an initialization script that needs
to be run to enable the port?

I'd be grateful for any help, since right now I'm downloading via dos
and mounting the dos partition in order to get the files into Linux.
Please respond to ckrug@chedccf0.ucsd.edu.

Thanks.

(ps. ckermit under COHERENT works fine with my modem, so it's not a
problem with a bizarre brand modem.)
