I'm going to be getting a 486 system (DX2/66) with either an
Acer or ASUS brand motherboard, and would any feedback from
anyone running Linux on these systems.
I know Acer is quite a large and reputable PC manufacturer,
but this motherboard is from a clone supplier so I don't know
much about it (Acer Open series is all they told me).
I have looked on the X hardware compatibility FAQ but there
was not mention of either of these there.
Secondly, I'll probably be getting an ATI Graphics Ultra video
card - not the newest thing out but I think it is supported by
Xfree86 and is pretty decent.
What I don't know is whether Linux supports the bus mouse that
comes with the ATI Graphics Ultra. In the Linux FAQ, it says
bus mice are now supported, but that some of these are not "REAL"
bus mice and might not work.
can anyone give me any suggestions or comments on this hardware?
Does anybody have Linux/X up and working on a similar setup?
I appreciate any replies,
james
