What animal, if any, to choose for a logo, should be rather obvious. A bird.
Free as a bird. Obviously. What bird to choose I leave to you bird-knowers.
A C-gull perhaps?

And if there should be a name change, change into LUNIX. Unix for Lunatics,
or Linus Unix. That`s mainly a joke.
