I agree with Daniel about this. However, as Ian points out in his daily
post, this has been tried and nothing can be done for six months. So, my
question is, HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT? or... WHEN WAS THIS TRIED? If
the opportunity to do so (i.e. 6 months comes up) is coming up soon, then
perhaps we should start discussing it.

Just in case that 6 month period is coming to a conclusion, here's my
$.02 on this:
From what I've seen on c.o.l. the main split has to do with the varied
experience of the readers. Gurus and developers are sick of reading newbie
questions and whines, newbies are intimidated by gurus into not asking
the questions. I think then that we only need two new groups:
comp.os.linux.questions
comp.os.linux.develop
Rather than split the group way down, leave c.o.l for discussions about
miscellaneous bunk and non system applications. c.o.l.q is where the newbie
crowd can feel free to ask all the questions they want and the gurus don't
have to read them if they don't want. Often I think newbies helping newbies
is the most productive type of help. Then in c.o.l.d we have all the gurus
and developers discussing the advanced topics of linux, and newbies can
subscribe and lurk if they want.
As Linux grows I suspect we'll see a change in how these newsgroups are
utilized. In another six months we might need to add more splits... who
knows?

Well, I'll talk about. Maybe this should go to email....
