Subject: [Q] /dev/modem, serial problem please help
Date: Sun, 04 Apr 1993 01:47:09 GMT

Hi out there in Netland,

Here I go, the next annoyance to all the serious toubleshooters
but since I want to get rid of this problem (and of MS-DOS) and
I for sure read the FAQ and any man-page I could figure I just
have no more clue than asking YOU yes you so please PLEASE help !

My problem:

Linux does not recognize my my internal hayes compatibel 14.4k
Crosslink modem at COM3. First I thought it might be the IRQ of
my mouse (COM1 or ttyS0) conflicting with the ttyS2 or COM3 of the
modem but after I opened up the computer (tried some serious jumper-
ing) of serial-card and modem card (unfortunately I couldn't figure
out how to jumper a serial to IRQ 5, f*ck those very cheap cards..)
I dragged out my 2s2p-card and jumpered the modem to COM1 and booted
Linux. The result was:
Depressing - in spite of all my hopes Linux couldn't even find a serial
and of course no parallel port and after symlinking /dev/modem to
ttyS0 I tried minicom but also to no avail I got no modem response.

If ANYBODY has got any clue about what I still can try or what I have
to (maybe I overlooked something important ) please let me know by
e-mail or just post it here because I can see many people having kind
of the same problem.

Many thanks in advance
