Just some quick news about how the LSM is coming...

Today was a very productive day. I've managed to get the file listings of
both tsx-11 and sunsite into a database format and have started to fill in
fields. There are about 1700 entries right now, but I haven't weeded out
the directory names, the extraneous documentation files, etc. However,
through a nifty merge of the tsx archive listing and the sunsite listing, I
was able to fill in the description fields and file sizes of about 1/3 of
the file. These items were promising to be troublesome, so that's a
relief.

This weekend, I plan on spending some time editing and deleting to "purify"
what I have and to add stuff as needed.

The way I see things shaping up, once I get as far as I can with the info I
have, including the software on my own system, I'll start posting here or
in comp.os.linux.announce on a regular basis asking for characteristics of
files or archives that I'm not sure about. The details of what I'll need
will be in the post. If you have already downloaded one of the packages I
mention, it would be of great help if you could jot down some stuff and
email me back. This is the way it'll work in the initial stages.

There was also a problem on grex.cyberspace.org and some news articles
didn't get sent out properly. I *think* the "official" LSM Submission
specification post was one of them, but I haven't heard back from my
informants to let me know what happened. If I don't see it by Monday, here
on comp.os.linux, I'll repost for those of you who don't get
comp.os.linux.announce. Basically, its an amended IAFA-PACKAGES format,
but I give examples and templates in my file. Best to wait for the spec.

Thanks again for all of the letters of encouragment, they really do mean
alot. After the progress made today, I'm beginning to feel that this whole
thing is possible and doable.

Stay tuned...
-Jeff. :)
