Nope. Use Linux fdisk to make the partition and mkfs (or mkefs, mke2fs, mkxfs)
to make the filesystem (that's what format does for dos).
You should install a swap partition (if you don't have 32 MB of RAM, that is
;-)
I think with 16 MB total (including RAM) you should be able to run reasonably
well, 20 are probably better.
If you want partition sizes greater than 64MB and filenames longer than 14
characters you will have to use ext2fs or xfs.

I don't have a network at home but I believe it is no more difficult to
install it later than to install it together with the rest. Anyway if you
do a full install of SLS (no problem in 140 MB), the TCP/IP, News and Mail
stuff is included.

I believe ingres is a relational DBMS.
