I recently got a 486 box from HD systems, and it came with a no-name
serial mouse (well, it says "HD" on it, but I don't know who makes
it). Under DOS, the mouse is configurable to work either as a
Microsoft mouse or a Mouse Systems mouse -- by default, it's a
Microsoft, but if you hold a button down during power-up, it acts
likes a Mouse Systems mouse.
I'd like to use it as a Mouse Systems mouse under linux, because (at
least under DOS) in Mouse Systems mode all three of its buttons work,
while in Microsoft mode the middle button is useless. However under
linux/X11 it always appears to be a Microsoft mouse, even when I hold
a button down during bootup. Any suggestions? I'm running linux
.97pl1, with the older version of X11 (is it v1.1? I don't have my
machine here...)
