I was having an email conversation with someone on this and
I pointed to books like "Numerical Recipes" as examples of
the truly professional quality of output which TeX can attain.

He pointed to things like the Red Book as things his paradigm
could do.

I just looked it up and the Red Book was produced using Scribe :-)
Thats no GUI "application package" -- it's as close to TeX as you can
get. One up for offline typesetting ;-)
