Sorry, I had trouble getting this out to the tape mailing group so I am
posting instead. This is getting really frustrating, maybe because I don't
know the first thign about tape drives :-).
Hello,
I have been experiencing a great deal of difficulty determining what sort of
tape drive I need to get so that I will be able to do tape back-ups under
linux. After a bit of research and reading it appears that only QIC-02 and
QIC-36 drives are supported. I am finding that actually locating such a beast
is remarkably difficult. Many manufacturers do not explicitly state what
QIC is used. I know to stay away from "floppytape" drives but what about the
various Wangtek drives? They all seem to be SCSI to me but I thought i read
somewhere that they were supported. Would someone mind explaining?
On a more specific vein, are ARchive drives in general supported? In
particular is the Archive VP402 controller card? What about the Archive
5580i drive? Thanks for any info. choosing a tape drive is becoming a real
chore.
Brian
