You are obviously not up to date with xdvi. Try to get a new version
(pl15 or pl16), recompile (don't forget to add -DGREY and -DMAKEPK,
remove -DMSBITFIRST and change SHORT to LONG on the Imakefile DEFS
line), and shiver! Even for this tiny application you don't need DOS!

Anyone for an alternative on
   'dvips xxx.dvi && gs -r180 -sDEVICE=epson xxx.ps' ?

(Yes, I installed dvips with a default resolution of 180dpi)
