Subject: Bug: MSDOS FS under .97p6

Try mounting any DOS partition, cd to the mounted drive, and then do a
du. Whenever I do this I get a Kernel Panic: FAT error.

If this cannot be recreated by others, it started after I deleted two hidden
files (DOS attr Hidden and Archive) using rm under linux. After that I did
a du, linux crashed, and on reboot, my hard drive wouldn't boot. I use a
third-party hard drive security system, so I used it to restore my partition
sector, and then my drive would boot. However, I still get the Kernel
Panic mentioned above. The areas I question are the deletion of "hidden"
files and the use of non-standard partition sectors under MSDOS (the third-
party security scrambles the boot sector). Anyone have any insights into
any of this?

p.s. I boot linux using the rootdisk on tsx-11.
