From: feoh@hal.gnu.ai.mit.edu (Chris Patti) Subject: SPEED comparisons of ET4000 cards. Date: Mon, 28 Sep 1992 05:56:53 GMT
Hello,
I have decided that going with anything else would be foolish and will
be buying a 486DX50 system within the next week that will have an ET4000 based
video card in it.
I will be using the card to design/play animations of various types
under Linux (and possibly Dos/windows if the apps don't exist for Linux) and
I only need to know one last thing.. What's the fastest ET4000 based card on
the market priced at ~$200? Are there any appreciable speed differences between
the ET4000 based Genoa, Boca, Tseng and other cards?
On a more Linux/X related note, does anyone have any idea whether or
not the bugs that were initially reported with the Linux 8514 XV2.0 server have
been fixed?
I would consider buying an ATI Ultra as I think performance is better
due to the built in Blitter, etc, however relatively flawless Xwindows
operation is my main goal (aside from the animation I mentioned above) so
unless 8514 support has been integrated into the server or at least stabilized
I'll stick with an ET4000.
Thanks in advance and Please excuse if this is slightly off topic,
Sincerely,
Chris Patti

P.S. I'll be releasing all the responses I have received from SVGA card owners
RSN as an FAQ. I'd be extremely pleased if it could be made into an ongoing
effort to help provide new users with up to date information..
