I'm a new linux user and, therefore, have the right to make three
stupid question before I get flammed :-)
After installing linux, GCC and X11 in a 486 with 8Meg without any
problems, I stumbled in what should have been a simple task, the
porting of my stuff from Ultrix to the linux box.
When trying to make the package I got:
1 - Several errno 11 (try again) in GCC .The second try did indeed
work, most of the time.
2 - After everything compiled smoothly, the ar program complained
that:
> /usr//bin/ar: bad format (not an object file) in /home/aml/cad/mis/lib/libmisII.a(nodeutil.o)
The names of the files it complains about change without any apparent
rule after I redo the one it complains about. The library I'm trying
to 'ar' is pretty big, about 3 Megabytes.
3 - When using a different approach (smaller libraries) I got:
>ld: malformatted header of archive member in ../lib/libmisII.a
Again, this error shows up for different libraries, without any
special rule. When this error doesn't show up, the linker complains
that many symbols are not defined when they should be.
I compiled it using GCC 2.2.2d without any special flags. The whole
stuff compiles without problems in my Ultrix machine.
Any help in thie matter would be very much appreciated.
