I have been following this thread, looking for wisdom ;-)

Scott suggested in a previous posting that the character sequence ctrl-v ctrl-o would reset the terminal under bash. I tried it but it didn't work for me (0.97 pl4). By some guessing, I found that the sequence ctrl-q ctrl-v ctrl-o does work. I subsequently installed the bash man page and found that ctrl-q ctrl-v is indeed the quoting mechanism for bash. (Some further experimenting showed that crtl-v ctrl-o does _sometimes_ work, but I don't yet know why).

There was another posting which said that the question is indeed covered in the FAQ. Well, I down-loaded a copy of the FAQ file from a local mirror last night and the only stuff which seemed relevant was that concerning setterm. I tried setterm -reset, setterm -initialize, and setterm -clear. None of these put the VC into the required state. =============== Bill Metzenthen Mathematics Department Monash University Australia
