A local computer company went bust this week and I got a 16" EIZO monitor and
a ATI Graphics Ultra for 2000,-DM. Quickly downloaded the X8514 stuff and tryed
it out on our Linux machine here at the Uni. Great stuff, it works really well!
Our machine here is an 18MHz 386 DX with 8MB and MFM disks. Tonight I'll try
it all out on my 33MHz 486 at home :-)
We seem to have picked up a wierd version of linux. The include paths weren't
right and we still can't get X programs to work with shared libraries. Does
this work at all? It would be nice. Then xless is 50KB instead of 500KB. Maybe
I'll have to FTP a complete release from somewhere (a student gave us a copy
of what he had and asked if we could get it to work) and reinstall everything.
Can anyone recommend a complete working package?
Otherwise we're very impressed with Linux. It's given a new lease of life to
all our old 386 machines.
