 i have /usr/X386
          /usr/emacs
  so /usr/TeX seems to me the logical replacement for
/usr/local in the web2c Makefile for tex/metafont.

ps the new dvilj i'm uploading will default to
 /usr/TeX/lib/tex/fonts
to look for fonts.
