xset (and many other mit clients for x-windows, such as oclock, etc)
are available from export.lcs.mit.edu in the mit/R5untarred/clients
tree. They compile strait out of the box - just do xmkmf, edit the
resulting Makefile to make sure the USRLIBDIR points to where the
x libraries really are (probably in /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/2.2.2*),
make sure 2 following definitions based on USRLIBDIR are explicity
set to /usr/lib again, and compile. The new X-windows, gcc might not
nead that last caveat to get things to compile - I find I have to do that
on every Makefile and have generated a small patch I always apply after
running xmkmf.
best of luck,
Jean.
