Subject: InterViews - Patches available for 3.1beta2
I have uploaded to nic and tsx-11 the file
iv31b2_diff.tar, which contains a short README (appended at
the end of this messag - oops, no, not appendeded, I don't know
how to do with vi :-) and the patches you have to apply to
version 3.1beta2 of InterViews in order to compile (and run, as
far as I can judge, stable) under linux.
To compile, you'll have to have about 50M of disk space, about
24M of virtual memory (for example 8MB Ram and 16 MB swap) and
lots of time. I compiled using linux0.97pl5 and gcc222. I suppose
that any other gcc will also do (the library compiled also with
222d and jump41). But there is no way I found avoiding static
linking.
You may get the original sources from interviews (36.22.0.175) or
some other ftp-server. They are called 3.1-beta2.tar.Z, if you want
to ask archie.
I have placed the patches at /pub/OS/Linux/incoming on nic. On tsx-11,
Ted will (hopefully) place them somewhere in short time and inform
us afterwards. Other servers are likely to pick it up also.
If you encounter any problems, please mail me. If you were also
trying to port ("port") it, mail me, too, please.
Happy Viewing,
Bernie

P.S.: Having played around with it a little, there are still some minor
problems. The ibmkmf script needs some fixing or csh (I will try tcsh
in some minutes). Also, the curses-badness known from sc is back for
doc (isn't this bad!). Maybe the guys doing sc can jump in here?
Also, ibuild just trashes the directory it was started from with lots
of tools - and doesn't even start if the tools are allready there. Not
so bad, you can write a script.
