|Subject: CD-Rom on a soundblaster pro

|The header says it all. Instead of buying a scsi interface to add a cd-rom
|to my computer can I hook it up to my sound blaster pro? I know soeone is
|working on sound blaster drivers but does this concern the cd-rom interface?
|Does the existing scsi support included in the kernel recognie the soundblaster
|interface?

        Big NO.

On a similar note, after a slew of flamish mails to some people within
Media Vision about their policy of requiring an EXTREMELY restrictive
nondisclosure agreement to be signed to get their SDKs (by EXTREMELY
restrictive, I mean that software development and/or distribution violates
MULTIPLE CLAUSES!). After some dialogue, they have clarified/changed their
policies so that basically if you own a PAS 16, you can get an SDK from them
if you call them up and ask for one. If you want to get their beta stuff and
stuff about their future cards, then you'll have to sign an NDA, but they will
be drafting a new one that is geared to allow software development (!). The
upshot of this is that this card's REAL SCSI interface (the SB Pro has a
proprietary, SCSI-like interface actually) shouldn't be too hard to get
support for now.

If anybody in the SCSI club would like to try this, lemme know and I'll
tell you how to get an SDK (who to talk to), and for reference, the SCSI
controller is done via a rather new Zilog chip that is sorta a one-chip SCSI
and does 360k/sec true 16-bit SCSI. Not bad. BTW, the card is $200 or less
at shows, and dropping, and also has full CD-quality sound DAC (44.1k 16bit)
and a real stereo FM synth. Plus mixer, plus software (TrakBlaster PRO), and
the SCSI controller for $200 - I think we need to support this thing! This is
a really good deal for most people - the only thing non-good about the thing
is the SCSI interface can't boot from the SCSI drive :-(. Still, not bad...
