Of course, if you're going through X windows, or even the kernel, for
doing graphics for games, you can kiss goodbye any possibility of
having any kind of a real-time game. Just think of the pathlength
difference of setting a single bit.

There are good reasons for using something like the vgalib package
that makes it possible to get to the graphics display without the
pathlengths of X.
