Yes, I think the problem was just that there was no check for write()
returning 0.

Well, I'm picky about compiler warning messages so when I saw it
complaining about the tstamp stuff, I made the changes and surrounded
it with #idef LINUX #endif. Wasn't aware they were POSIX. Sez
something about Linux/GCC I think... :-)
