Subject: compiler errors under .97, problem solved !
Date: 14 Sep 1992 12:03:20 GMT

Since 0.97 and up appeared, I was having some troubles compiling large
programs (such as the kernel) under Linux. I was getting errors such as:

ld: premature end of file in strings of "somefile".o
  or
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
  or
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11

Well, after a lot SIMM swapping If finaly identified four 1Mx9 SIMMs that
were bad in my system.

I have a 486 33Mhz with 8Megs of RAM and the bad SIMMs were in the lower
bank.

It is funny that under 0.96cp2 I didn't have any problems and that the
public domain RAM tests that I run when I bought my system didn't detect
anything !

Anybody knows about a good RAM test program ?

For those interested, the four bad SIMMs were made by Toshiba and I replaced
them by Goldstars SIMMs. My four other SIMMs are made by Eagle (2) and
CuBig (2). All SIMMs are 1Mx9 3-chips.

Hope this information can help.
