Hi,

I'm currently trying to install gcc 2.2.2d and ran into a few major problems;
this is what I did so far:

- got 2.2.2d{db,lib,misc}.tar.Z
- untarred the install-directory from ...misc.tar.Z
- read README
- ran sh install.2.x 2.2.2d /usr/src/linux
- it didn't find the tar-files, so I copied them to /usr/install/gcc2
- !sh
- after some time, the script told me that it couldn't find .../shared/libsoft.a
 (and - surprise,surprise - I don't have it; it's not in any tarfile)
- so I copied the shared/libsoft.a from my gcc 2.2.2-release
- !sh
- after some rumbling it says 'installing jump tables' and then:
'mv: libc.so.2.2: no such file or directory'; same for libsoft.so.2.2.
but continued by asking me for the kernel sources
- it then issued some complaints about chmods ('no such file or directory')
- finally, the script choked on '/usr/bin/gcc -dumpspecs'
('can't load library /lib/libc.so.2') and died on me with 'Error during
  installation ...'
- with a pleasant smile, kicked the PC through the window

So: anybody knows a good book on hardware repairs ? :-)

Kolja
